Kans Quila
Kans Quila, also known as the Fort of Kans, is a historic site located on the banks of the Yamuna River. It is legendary as the residence of King Kans, the maternal uncle of Lord Krishna. While the current structure mostly dates back to the 16th century when it was rebuilt by Raja Man Singh I of Am ber, the foundations are believed to be much older, reaching back to ancient times. The fort was later used by Raja Sawai Jai Singh of Jaipur to build an astronomical observatory, similar to the Jantar Mantar, though very little of that remains today. Over the years, the fort fell into ruins, especially during the British era when much of its stone was sold off. Today, it stands as a rugged, atmospheric ruin that offers some of the best views of the Yamuna and the city's ghats. It serves as a silent witness to the mythological and historical transitions of Mathura from the era of Krishna to the Mughal and Rajput reigns.
