Govardhan Hill

Mathura, Uttar Pradesh, India
Govardhan Hill, also known as Giriraj, is a sacred 8-km long ridge located near Mathura. It holds immense spiritual importance in Hinduism, specifically for devotees of Lord Krishna. According to the Bhagavata Purana, young Krishna lifted this entire hill on his little finger to protect the village rs of Braj from the torrential rains sent by Lord Indra. This act symbolizes the protection of devotees and the humbling of pride. The hill is not just a geological formation but is worshipped as a natural form of the Lord himself. Thousands of pilgrims perform the Parikrama, a 21 KMS walk around the hill, throughout the year to seek blessings. The landscape is dotted with several sacred tanks, temples, and groves that resonate with the legends of the Dvapara Yuga.
