Kethaki Sangameshwara Temple

Sangareddy, Telangana, India
Divine Legend: The Kethaki Sangameshwara Temple is an ancient and holy site dedicated to Lord Shiva. According to Hindu mythology, the Shiva Lingam here was established by Lord Brahma himself as a penance to seek forgiveness from Lord Shiva. The temple is famously situated in a Kethaki (Pandanus) fo rest, and it is the only temple where Kethaki flowers are used in the worship of Shiva, which is otherwise forbidden in other temples due to a mythological curse. Another legend speaks of King Kupendra of the Surya Vamsha, who was cured of a chronic skin disease after bathing in the temple's holy stream. In gratitude, the king renovated the temple and built the large pushkarini known as Ashta Teertha Amrutha Gundam. The temple is often referred to as Dakshina Kashi (Kashi of the South) because of its spiritual significance and the belief that the waters are as holy as the Ganges. The temple complex is vast and vibrant, filled with the aroma of incense and the sound of bells. It serves as a major pilgrimage hub for people from Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Telangana. The atmosphere during festivals is electric, with thousands of devotees standing in long queues to catch a glimpse of the deity. The architecture, though renovated over time, retains a classic South Indian temple charm with a towering Gopuram.
