Kutlehar Forts

Una, Himachal Pradesh, India
Kutlehar Forts, also known as the Forts of Solasingi, are a group of ancient fortifications situated atop the Solasinghi Dhar mountain range. These forts were originally built by the rulers of the Kutlehar state, one of the oldest principalities in the region. Later, they were renovated by Maharaja Ranjit Singh and even used by the Gurkhas. Sitting at an altitude of about 1,162 meters, the forts offer a strategic vantage point overlooking the Gobind Sagar Lake and the Beas valley. Today, much of the structures are in ruins, but they still exude a sense of bygone majesty. The trek to the forts is as rewarding as the destination itself, passing through dense pine and oak forests. The site is a favorite for trekkers and history enthusiasts who enjoy exploring off-the-beaten-path locations. From the top, the panoramic view of the reservoir looks like a giant blue ribbon winding through the hills. The silence of the ruins, interrupted only by the whistling wind, provides a hauntingly beautiful experience. It is a place that reflects the military strategy of the hill kings of Himachal.
