Mecca Masjid
Mecca Masjid, located just a short walk from the Charminar, is one of the largest and oldest mosques in India. Its construction began in 1614 by Sultan Muhammad Quli Qutb Shah and was completed by Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb in 1694. The name of the mosque is derived from the belief that the bricks use d to build its central arch were brought from the holy city of Mecca, a fact that gives the mosque a sacred significance for Muslims. The main prayer hall is a vast, columned space that can accommodate more than 10,000 worshippers at a time. The complex is surrounded by a beautiful courtyard and features the tombs of several Nizam rulers, adding to its historical importance. The mosque is a place of immense spiritual and architectural significance, embodying the religious harmony and grandeur of the Qutb Shahi and Nizam eras.
