Pangsau Pass

Miao, Arunachal Pradesh, India
The Geography: Pangsau Pass stands at an altitude of 3,727 feet on the Indo-Myanmar border. It provides one of the easiest land routes from the Assam plains into the Hukawng Valley of Myanmar. The pass is a geographical gap in the Patkai mountain range that has been used for centuries by migrating t ribes and invading armies. From the top of the pass, one can see the legendary Lake of No Return shimmering in the distance on the Myanmar side. History and Warfare: During World War II, this was the most difficult section of the Ledo Road to construct. The steep gradients and thick mud earned it the name "Hell Pass." Thousands of laborers and soldiers struggled against malaria and harsh terrain here to maintain the supply line to China. It remains a silent witness to the sacrifices made during the global conflict.
