Photos Of Rauza Sharif

Sirhind, Punjab, India
Rauza Sharif is the mausoleum of Shaikh Ahmad Faruqi Sirhindi, a prominent Sufi saint and scholar who lived during the reigns of Akbar and Jahangir. He is known as Mujaddid Alf Sani, which means the "Reviver of the Second Millennium." This site is considered one of the holiest places for Sunni Musl ims in India and is often referred to as the "Second Mecca." The complex consists of several tombs, a mosque, and a beautiful gateway. The main tomb is a masterpiece of Mughal architecture, featuring intricate carvings, marble work, and a majestic dome. People from all over the world, including Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Turkey, visit Rauza Sharif to pay their respects. The atmosphere is deeply spiritual, with the scent of incense and the sound of prayers filling the air. The complex also houses the tombs of several family members of the saint, as well as the graves of the Afghan ruler Shah Zaman and his queen. Interestingly, the site also includes a small Gurudwara, highlighting the religious coexistence in Sirhind. The annual Urs (death anniversary) of the Shaikh is a major event, drawing thousands of pilgrims. The architecture reflects the transition from early to late Mughal styles, with heavy Persian influences. The brickwork is exceptionally fine, and the use of marble on the domes adds a touch of elegance. For any visitor to Sirhind, Rauza Sharif offers a profound look into the Islamic heritage of Punjab and the life of a man who significantly influenced Islamic thought in the 17th century. The serene gardens and the historical depth of the site make it a highlight of the region.
