History and Architectural Glory: Shalini Palace is a magnificent royal residence built between 1931 and 1934 at a substantial cost of Rs. 8,00,000, and it was named after Princess Shalini Raje of Kolhapur. This historic palace stands majestically on the west bank of the picturesque Rankala Lake, cre ating a stunning visual harmony with the natural landscape. The palace is an exquisite example of Indo-Saracenic architecture, reflecting the regal grandeur of the princely state of Kolhapur. It was famously converted into a luxury three-star heritage hotel in 1987, becoming the first and only palace hotel in Maharashtra at the time, which brought it international recognition. For a period, it served as a glamorous backdrop for numerous Indian films, further highlighting its aesthetic appeal. Although the hotel operation ceased in 2014, the structure remains a vital historical landmark.
