Homestay Cost: The primary expense is the homestay accommodation, which typically ranges from INR 1,500 to INR 2,500 per night per person, usually inclusive of all three meals. This cost is very reasonable for the extreme remoteness and directly supports the local families.
No Specific Village Fee: There is no separate entry ticket or fee to walk into or around the village of Punguk itself. Access is granted through the ILP clearance at the Loma Checkpoint.
Payment Method: All payments in Punguk must be made in cash, as there are no ATMs or digital payment facilities available. This emphasizes the necessity of carrying sufficient cash from Leh.

Homestay Check-in: Standard homestay check-in is typically mid-afternoon, around 2:00 PM, as the drive from Leh/ Pangong is long, and check-out is usually before 9:00 AM.
Ideal Visit Time - Night: New Moon nights during the summer are the best for the spectacular stargazing experience from the village's periphery.
Ideal Visit Time - Season: June to September are the best months for comfortable travel, open roads, and the most pleasant daytime weather for walks around the plain.

Astro-Tourism Community Events: Occasionally, the local 'Astro-Ambassador' community may hold informal gatherings or 'star parties' near the village to share telescopes and knowledge, which a visiting tourist staying locally might be invited to join.

Traditional Changpa Life: It is famous for providing a glimpse into the traditional, isolated life of the Changpa community, away from the minor tourism focus of the main Hanle settlement. It's a genuine cultural window.
Proximity to Wildlife: Its location on the open Nilamkhul Plain makes it one of the better, quieter spots for observing the local wildlife, particularly the Kiang and various marsh birds, without the slight disturbance of the main road.
Authentic Homestay Experience: The village is famous among repeat visitors for its genuine, unadulterated Ladakhi hospitality and the simplicity of its accommodation and cuisine, which offers a powerful contrast to modern city life.

The design emphasizes thermal insulation against the severe cold.
Flat-Roof Design: The houses feature flat roofs made of layers of mud and straw over timber, which is characteristic of the dry, cold desert climate where snowfall is minimal in the valley floor, allowing the roofs to be used for drying crops or stacking fodder.
Agricultural Layout: The village layout is organic, with houses loosely clustered near small patches of cultivated barley fields and fenced-off livestock corrals, reflecting its agricultural function. The architecture is integrated with the landscape.
Dimension and Scale: The structures are modest and small-scale, designed for a single family and perhaps a few animals, with an emphasis on low height to minimize exposure to high winds. The walls are thick (0. 5 meters or more) for maximum insulation, and windows are small to retain heat.
