Complementing the grandeur of Karla Caves, the Bhaja Caves are another remarkable ensemble of Buddhist rock-cut architecture, primarily dating back to the 2nd century BCE. These caves are particularly significant for their architectural style, which represents the early phase of Buddhist rock-cut c aves in India. The complex includes a main Chaitya (prayer hall) that, while smaller than Karla's, is equally impressive with its exquisite wooden-ribbed roof (now mostly recreated) and a collection of 14 stupas, many of which are memorial stupas dedicated to resident monks. One of the most distinctive features of Bhaja Caves is the unique group of rock-cut sculptures depicting mythological figures, including the famous 'dancer and musician' panel. The caves also contain several Viharas (monasteries) and water cisterns. The location of the caves is strikingly beautiful, nestled amidst lush greenery and overlooking a picturesque valley.
