Gorakhgad Fort

Thane, Maharashtra, India
Gorakhgad Fort is a small but thrilling hill fort named after Saint Gorakshnath, who is said to have meditated here. It is a favorite among trekkers for its vertical rock-cut steps and breathtaking views of the Sahyadri range. The fort was primarily used as a watchtower to guard the trade route thr ough Naneghat. Unlike larger forts, it has limited structures but features impressive caves and water cisterns carved directly into the rock. The climb is challenging but rewarding, especially when reaching the small temple at the top. The surrounding forest is part of a wildlife sanctuary, adding a touch of wilderness to the adventure. It offers a perfect escape for those looking for peace and adrenaline.
