Telangana, India
Charminar is a monument and mosque built in 1591 by Sultan Muhammad Quli Qutb Shah, the fifth ruler of the Qutb Shahi dynasty. It is a defining symbol of Hyderabad and is officially incorporated into the emblem of Telangana. Constructed to commemorate the end of a deadly plague, the monument stands as a magnificent example of Indo-Islamic architecture, blending Persian and local Indian styles. Its four grand arches open to four cardinal directions, serving as a historic gateway to the old city. At its heart, Charminar represents the rich cultural and historical legacy of Hyderabad. The structure also houses a mosque on its top floor, which has been a place of worship for over 400 years.
