Reviews Of Masroor Rock Cut Temple
Historical Significance: The Masroor Rock Cut Temple is a unique complex of 15 monolithic temples carved out of a single natural sandstone rock. Dating back to the 8th century, these temples are a rare example of rock-cut architecture in North India, often compared to the Ellora Caves. The Legend of Pandavas: Local folklore suggests that the Pandava brothers from the Mahabharata built these temples during their exile. It is said they were attempting to build a stairway to heaven but were interrupted by a local resident, leaving the structure beautifully incomplete. Architectural Style: The temples follow the Nagara style of architecture, featuring intricate carvings of Hindu deities such as Shiva, Vishnu, and Devi. The symmetry of the complex, centered around a main shrine and a sacred pool, is a testament to ancient Indian engineering. Modern Discovery: These temples were brought to global attention by Henry Shuttleworth in 1913. Despite being damaged by the massive 1905 Kangra Earthquake, the ruins remain one of the most spiritually and historically significant sites in the Kangra Valley.
