The name "Edupayala" means "Seven Streams," referring to the confluence of seven rivulets that form the Manjeera River at this spot. According to legend, Maharaja Parikshit performed a "Sarpa Yagna" here, and the blood of the snakes spilled at seven places, becoming these streams. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Kanakadurga and is uniquely located inside a natural cave formation. During the monsoon, the river water often rises to touch the feet of the deity, an event considered highly auspicious by devotees. The site is not just a religious center but also a place of immense natural beauty, with rocky outcrops and lush forests.
