Tourism Tips
@@Health and Safety Tips: Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) is a serious concern due to the high altitude and thin air. It is mandatory to spend the first 48 hours in Leh resting and doing minimal activity to acclimatize. Drink plenty of water (at least 3-4 liters a day) and avoid alcohol or smoking during the first few days. Carry medicines like Diamox after consulting your doctor, and keep a portable oxygen cylinder if possible. If you feel severe headache or nausea, descend to a lower altitude immediately. Always keep a basic first-aid kit and stay updated on the weather conditions. The sun is very strong at this altitude, so wear high-SPF sunscreen and sunglasses.@@Packing Essentials: Layering is the key to dressing in Ladakh as the temperature can fluctuate wildly between sun and shade. Carry heavy woolens, a windproof jacket, thermals, and good quality trekking shoes. Even in summer, the nights can be very cold, so a warm fleece is necessary. Don't forget to pack a hat, gloves, and woolen socks for the high passes. Carry a power bank and extra batteries for your camera as the cold drains them quickly. Since plastic is banned, carry a reusable water bottle to refill at your hotel. A physical map and a list of emergency contacts are also highly recommended.@@Accommodation and Connectivity: Leh offers a wide range of accommodation from luxury hotels to budget homestays. In remote areas like Pangong or Nubra, you will mostly find luxury tents or basic guesthouses. It is best to book your stay in advance during the peak season to avoid last-minute hassles. Only Postpaid mobile connections (BSNL, Airtel, Jio) work in Ladakh, and data speeds can be very slow. Most hotels in Leh provide Wi-Fi, but it may not be very reliable. Carry enough cash as ATMs are only available in Leh and Kargil and may run out of money. Respect the local culture by dressing modestly and asking before taking photos of people.
