Packing Essentials: Pack warm, layered clothing, rain gear (raincoat or poncho), sunscreen for exposed skin on the trek, a hat, and a good quality camera with a wide-angle lens for the panoramic views. Binoculars are highly recommended for spotting the distant landscapes and any unique flora or fauna in the Shola grasslands. Carry a trash bag to bring all waste back down the mountain.
Accommodation: The peak does not offer tourist accommodation. Stay in nearby Chikmagalur town, the village of Attigundi, or the numerous excellent coffee plantation homestays along the route to the peak, such as those near Attigudi Junction. Homestays offer a local, immersive experience.
Other Tips:
Respect the Syncretic Shrine: Be mindful and respectful of the religious practices of both the Hindu and Muslim pilgrims at the Dattatreya Peetha cave shrine.
Plan the Trek Early: Start the Mullayanagiri trek as early as possible (before 6:00 AM) to beat the heat and ensure you are off the exposed ridge before afternoon clouds roll in. Check Weather and Road Conditions before setting out, especially during the monsoon, as fog can reduce visibility to near zero:
