Gangotri is a sacred town and a significant pilgrimage site nestled in the Garhwal Himalayas of Uttarakhand, India. Avoid Monsoon (July-August): The region is prone to heavy rainfall, landslides, and road blockages, making travel risky and challenging.
Winter (November to April): The temple remains closed due to heavy snowfall. Roads are often blocked, and the area is largely inaccessible.
Accommodation: Basic guesthouses, ashrams, and a few hotels are available in Gangotri and nearby towns like Harsil and Uttarkashi. During peak season, it's highly recommended to book accommodation in advance, especially if you plan to stay in Gangotri itself or at trekking stops like Bhojbasa.
