Mythological Significance: The region is steeped in the lore of the Mahabharata. It is famously known for its reverence toward figures like Someshwar Devta (Lord Shiva). Dimensions and Structural Design: Most traditional homes are two-story structures with a rectangular footprint of approximately 20 feet by 30 feet. The ground floor, known as the 'Obra', is typically used for cattle, while the upper floor serves as the living area for the family. The walls are usually 1. 5 to 2 feet thick, providing natural insulation against the harsh Himalayan winters. The roofs are made of heavy slate tiles or wooden planks, slanted at a 45-degree angle to allow snow to slide off easily. Intricate wood carvings often adorn the balconies and door frames, showcasing motifs of local flora and deities. This flexible structure is also earthquake-resistant, a vital feature in the seismic zone of Uttarakhand. -
