The Grand Viewing Platform of Kings: The Mahanavami Dibba, also known as Dasara Dibba, is a massive, multi-tiered stone platform located in the heart of the Royal Enclosure. This impressive structure was the central stage from which the Vijayanagara kings, particularly King Krishnadevaraya, watched and presided over the grand annual nine-day Mahanavami (or Dasara) festivities and military parades, symbolizing the king's power and prosperity. Constructed mostly of chlorite schist and granite blocks, the platform is notable for the elaborate and intricate carvings that cover its three layers of terraces, depicting various facets of royal life, military processions, hunting scenes, and foreign visitors. It was a visual chronicle and an architectural statement of the empire's might. Though the superstructures that once crowned it were likely made of wood and are now lost (destroyed in 1565 AD), the monumental stone base remains, showcasing the ceremonial grandeur of the capital city.
