Triveni Sangam

Konark, Odisha, India
The Triveni Sangam near Konark refers to the holy confluence where the mythical River Saraswati, the Chandrabhaga River, and the Bay of Bengal are believed to meet. While the other two rivers are visible, the Saraswati is believed to flow underground, making the point highly sacred. This spot is loc ated at the famous Chandrabhaga Beach, close to the Konark Sun Temple. It is a major pilgrimage site where taking a holy dip is considered highly meritorious, especially during the festival of Magha Saptami. The site is known for its religious importance and its stunning natural setting, though the Chandrabhaga river itself is now mostly an exposed creek.

    Natural Coastal Ritual Site:

Dimension (Variable): The confluence point is dynamic, changing with the tides and river flow.

Architectural Focus: The architecture is primarily natural—the meeting point of the river and the sea, which forms a gentle curve on the coastline. Any man-made structures are functional, like small bathing ghats, temporary platforms built during festivals, and a few small local shrines. The area is structured to accommodate the thousands of pilgrims who gather for the holy dip, with open spaces designed to manage large crowds, especially during major melas (fairs). The simplicity highlights the sanctity of the water itself.
