Bhalukpong Waterfall

Bhalukpong, Arunachal Pradesh, India
Waterfall Details: The Bhalukpong Waterfall, often referred to locally as the Sessa Waterfall or simply the roadside falls, is a magnificent natural attraction located on the way to Bomdila. As the water plunges from a significant height against the backdrop of dark, jagged rocks and vibrant tropica l greenery, it creates a misty veil that cools the entire surrounding area. This waterfall is particularly popular because it is easily accessible from the main highway, making it a perfect "pit stop" for travelers heading further into the mountains of Arunachal Pradesh. During the monsoon and post-monsoon months, the volume of water increases significantly, creating a thunderous roar that can be heard from a distance. The water is crystal clear and extremely cold, originating from the high-altitude springs of the Himalayas. The surrounding forest is part of the Sessa Orchid Sanctuary, meaning the area is exceptionally rich in biodiversity. It is common to see rare butterflies and small mountain birds fluttering near the spray of the falls. Unlike commercialized waterfalls in other parts of India, this spot retains a rugged and wild charm. There are no large fences or concrete platforms, allowing visitors to get quite close to the base, though caution is advised due to slippery rocks. It provides a refreshing break from the winding mountain roads and is a favorite among bikers and road-trippers for a quick wash and photography session.
