Binsar Wildlife Sanctuary

Binsar Wildlife Sanctuary is a dense forest reserve known for its rich biodiversity, stunning Himalayan views, and tranquil atmosphere. It was established in 1988 primarily for the conservation of the broad-leaf oak (Quercus leucotrichophora) forests of the Central Himalayan region. The sanctuary i s a paradise for nature lovers, birdwatchers, and wildlife enthusiasts. From Zero Point, the highest accessible point within the sanctuary, one can witness a magnificent 300 km panoramic view of the major Himalayan peaks, including Kedarnath, Shivling, Trisul, Nanda Devi, and Panchachuli. The sanctuary is home to a diverse array of flora and fauna. It boasts over 200 species of birds, making it a prime destination for ornithologists. Common birds include the Eurasian Jay, monal, koklass pheasant, and various species of tits and thrushes. Mammalian residents include the leopard, Himalayan goral, barking deer, musk deer, Himalayan black bear, pine marten, and civet. The dense forests and well-maintained trails within the sanctuary offer excellent opportunities for trekking and nature walks. Accommodation options, including the Forest Rest House and private resorts, are available inside and around the sanctuary, allowing for an immersive experience amidst nature.
