Bor Tiger Reserve

Amravati, Maharashtra, India
Bor Tiger Reserve is a prestigious wildlife sanctuary that gained the status of a Tiger Reserve in July 2014. It is famously known as the smallest tiger reserve in India, covering an area of approximately 138 Square Kilometres. Despite its compact size, it serves as a crucial corridor for tigers mo ving between Pench and Tadoba reserves. The sanctuary is centered around the Bor Dam reservoir, which provides a perennial water source for the wildlife. The forest type is predominantly Southern Tropical Dry Deciduous, featuring trees like Teak, Ain, and Tendu. It is home to a healthy population of Bengal Tigers, Leopards, Sloth Bears, and Indian Gaurs. Bird enthusiasts can spot over 160 species of birds, including various raptors and water birds. The reserve offers a more intimate safari experience compared to larger parks, with higher chances of sightings due to the concentrated prey base. The landscape is a beautiful mix of dense thickets, open grasslands, and water bodies. Safaris are conducted in the morning and evening, allowing visitors to explore the core and buffer zones. The eco-tourism complex at Bordharan provides basic accommodation and information for tourists. The reserve plays a vital role in the conservation of the endangered tiger population in Maharashtra. It is a must-visit for wildlife photographers and nature lovers seeking a quick wild escape. The tranquility of the forest and the thrill of tracking a predator make it a memorable destination.
