Burapahar Range
Kaziranga National Park, Assam, India
The Burapahar Range is characterized by its hilly terrain, dense forests, and the presence of the Mor Difolu River. Unlike the predominantly flat grasslands of the central and western ranges, Burapahar offers a more undulating landscape with higher elevations, providing a different ecological exper ience. This zone is known for its excellent opportunities to spot primates, particularly the Hoolock Gibbon, the only ape found in India. Visitors might also see Capped Langurs and Assamese Macaques in this forested area. While rhinos and elephants are present, their sightings might be less frequent and more challenging due to the denser vegetation. However, the diverse topography makes it a good area for sloth bears, wild boars, and various deer species. Birdlife is also abundant, particularly forest birds and raptors that prefer hilly habitats. The scenic beauty of Burapahar, with its lush greenery and rolling hills, makes it a pleasant area for exploration, even if large mammal sightings are less guaranteed than in the central or western ranges. Trekking options might be available with prior permission from forest authorities, offering a chance to explore the forest on foot with a guide.
