Dashashwamedh Ghat

Jajpur, Odisha, India
Sub Place Details: Dashashwamedh Ghat is the most sacred riverbank in Jajpur, located on the edge of the holy Baitarani River. Historically, it is the site where the legendary King Jajati Keshari performed the 'Dashashwamedha Yajna' (sacrifice of ten horses) in the 11th century to invoke divine bles sings. The ghat is considered as holy as the one in Varanasi, and a dip in the river here is believed to wash away all sins and grant salvation to the soul. Surrounded by ancient temples dedicated to various deities, the ghat serves as the spiritual heart of the city, especially during the Baruni Snana festival. Pilgrims from all over India congregate here to perform ancestral rites and offer prayers to the river goddess, making it a vibrant center of Vedic culture and traditional rituals.
