FAQs On Chandrabadni Temple

Devprayag, Uttarakhand, India
Chandrabadni Temple is a highly revered Hindu temple dedicated to Goddess Sati (a form of Durga). It is considered one of the 52 Shakti Peeths in India, places where body parts of Goddess Sati are believed to have fallen after Lord Shiva carried her incinerated body during his Tandava dance. Legend has it that the torso and weapons of Goddess Sati fell at this spot. The temple is unique in that it does not contain an idol of the goddess; instead, a Sri Yantra (a mystical diagram) is worshipped, traditionally kept covered by a cloth. The journey to Chandrabadni Temple is a pilgrimage in itself. While the base can be reached by road, a short hike (approximately 1.5-2 km) is required to reach the summit where the temple stands. The trek is rewarded with not only spiritual fulfillment but also awe-inspiring panoramic views of the surrounding Garhwal Himalayas. On clear days, one can behold magnificent vistas of prominent peaks like Kedarnath, Badrinath, and Surkanda Devi. The temple's remote and elevated location contributes to its serene and powerful ambiance. The crisp mountain air, the quietude, and the sense of devotion make it a truly spiritual experience. Many devotees undertake this journey to seek the blessings of the goddess and to witness the breathtaking natural beauty of the region. The temple premises often include a small bell hanging area, where devotees tie bells as offerings, a common practice in Himalayan temples. Chandrabadni offers a compelling blend of deep spiritual significance, ancient lore, and spectacular Himalayan scenery, making it a worthy detour for those visiting Devprayag.
