Falaknuma Palace
Falaknuma Palace, meaning 'Star of Heaven', is one of the most magnificent palaces of the Nizam era, built by Nawab Sir Viqar-ul-Umra, the Prime Minister of Hyderabad and the maternal grandson of the third Nizam. Its construction began in 1884 and was designed in the shape of a scorpion. In 1897, it was acquired by Nizam Mehboob Ali Khan and became a royal guesthouse. Known for its lavish interiors and vast art collection, it was leased and meticulously restored by the Taj Hotels Resorts and Palaces group and converted into a super-luxury heritage hotel, the Taj Falaknuma Palace, in 2010. The palace sits on a 2000-foot-high hill, offering breathtaking views. It houses the world's largest manually-operated wardrobe, a superb library, and the famous Venetian chandeliers, making it an architectural jewel of Hyderabad.
