Golconda Fort
Golconda Fort, meaning 'Shepherd's Hill' (Golla Konda in Telugu), is one of the most magnificent fortress complexes in India. It was originally built by the Kakatiya dynasty and was later fortified and expanded by the Qutb Shahi kings from 1518 to 1687, before eventually falling to Aurangzeb in 1687 . The fort is famous for its massive fortifications, ingenious acoustic system, and its historical association with the discovery of the world's most famous diamonds, including the Koh-i-Noor, the Hope Diamond, and the Nassak Diamond. The fort complex spans 7 kilometers in circumference and consists of four distinct forts with eight gates and 87 bastions. The ascent to the top (to the Bala Hissar pavilion) offers a breathtaking, panoramic view of the surrounding landscape, including the Qutb Shahi Tombs.
