Chowmahalla Palace
The Chowmahalla Palace, meaning 'Four Palaces' (Chow means four, Mahalat means palaces), was the official residence and seat of power for the Nizams of Hyderabad while they ruled the princely state. The construction spanned over a century, beginning in the late 18th century by Nizam Salabat Jung and concluding during the reign of the fifth Nizam, Afzar-ud-Daulah, Asaf Jah V. The palace originally covered 45 acres but now occupies 12 acres. It is an opulent architectural masterpiece divided into two courtyards: the Northern and Southern. The Southern Courtyard contains the four palaces: Afzal Mahal, Mahtab Mahal, Tahniyat Mahal, and Aftab Mahal. The palace is famed for its grand Khilwat Mubarak (Durbar Hall), where the Nizams held court, and its extensive collection of artifacts, vintage cars, and royal paraphernalia, offering a captivating glimpse into the opulent life of the Asaf Jahi dynasty.
