Ganga Riverfront

Begusarai, Bihar, India
The Ganga Riverfront at Simariya is one of the most sacred spots in Bihar, often compared to the ghats of Varanasi and Haridwar. It is the birthplace of the famous poet Ramdhari Singh 'Dinkar' and holds immense religious importance as a site for the holy dip. The riverfront is particularly famous f or the Kalpavas Mela, an ancient tradition believed to have been started by King Janaka. During the Hindu month of Kartik, thousands of devotees live in temporary shelters on the sandy banks of the river, practicing a month of austerity and prayer. The site is also known as Simaria Dham, a place where the soul seeks purification. Recently, the Bihar government has extensively developed the riverfront with paved ghats, changing rooms, and beautiful lighting to enhance the experience for pilgrims. The Rajendra Setu, Bihar's first rail-cum-road bridge, spans the river here, providing a magnificent backdrop to the spiritual landscape. The sight of the morning 'Aarti' at the riverfront is a soul-stirring experience, with the lamps reflecting in the vast waters of the Ganges. Whether it is for a religious ritual, a dip in the holy water, or simply to enjoy the sunset over the river, Simariya offers a unique blend of faith and natural beauty that is central to the culture of Begusarai.
