History Of Nuranang Falls

Nuranang Falls, popularly known as Bong Bong Falls or Jang Falls, is one of the most spectacular waterfalls in India, plunging from a height of about 100 meters. Located near the town of Jang, this waterfall is fed by the Nuranang River, which originates from the high-altitude Sela Pass. The falls gained national fame after being featured in the Bollywood movie "Koyla," but it remains a serene and largely uncrowded destination. The name "Nuranang" holds a deep emotional significance, named after a local Monpa girl named Nura who heroically assisted Indian soldiers during the 1962 Sino-Indian War. The water cascades down in a powerful white sheet against a backdrop of lush green mountains, creating a misty spray that cools the air for hundreds of meters around. The sound of the falling water is thunderous, yet the surrounding environment feels incredibly peaceful and isolated. Unlike many commercialized waterfalls, Nuranang offers a raw and authentic connection with nature. There is a small hydel power plant at the base of the falls, which uses the force of the water to generate electricity for the local community, showcasing a perfect harmony between nature and utility. Visitors can walk down a well-maintained path to reach the foot of the falls, where the sheer scale of the water becomes truly apparent. The mist created by the impact of the water on the rocks often forms beautiful rainbows on sunny days. The area is surrounded by dense forests and rocky terrain, making it a favorite spot for nature photographers and hikers. It is a perfect pit stop for those traveling between Dirang and Tawang, offering a refreshing break from the long mountain drive. The crystal-clear water of the river below the falls is often used by locals for trout fishing. Standing near the base, one feels humbled by the raw power of the Eastern Himalayas. The waterfall remains voluminous throughout the year, but its grandeur is most visible during the post-monsoon months. It is a symbol of the wild beauty that Arunachal Pradesh possesses. :
