It served as the ancient capital and the seat of the Meitei rulers of Manipur for centuries. The fort's history dates back to 33 AD, making it one of the oldes t existing forts in the world. After the Anglo-Manipuri War in 1891, the fort fell under British control and was used as the headquarters of the Assam Rifles. It was only in 2004 that the fort was handed back to the people of Manipur. Today, the fort is a serene and well-preserved complex that houses ancient temples, royal relics, and a museum. It is a symbol of Manipuri pride and a testament to the state's rich and enduring history. The complex is a place of profound spiritual and historical importance, where ancient traditions are still practiced.
