Buning Meadow

Tamenglong, Manipur, India
The Rolling Highlands: Buning Meadow, also known as N-piulong Valley, is a breathtaking expanse of undulating hills and lush grasslands. Often compared to the meadows of Switzerland, this site is a spectacle of natural beauty. During the spring and summer months, the entire meadow is blanketed with wild lilies and rare orchids, creating a colorful carpet that stretches as far as the eye can see. The meadow is situated at a high altitude, providing a cool and refreshing climate even when the plains are hot. It is a habitat for various wildlife, including the Hoolock Gibbon, foxes, and numerous species of mountain birds. Small brooks and streams meander through the mounds, their clear water sparkling under the sun. The landscape is characterized by uneven small mounts that look like giant green bubbles. For the local people, Buning is a place of peace and a popular spot for traditional gatherings. The silence of the meadow is profound, interrupted only by the whistling of the wind through the grass. It is an ideal destination for those who seek solitude and a deep connection with nature. The view of the sunset from Buning is legendary, as the sky turns into shades of orange and purple, reflecting off the dewy grass. The meadow remains largely untouched by commercial tourism, preserving its pristine and virginal charm. Walking across the soft grass, one feels a sense of liberation and joy. It is truly one of the most beautiful high-altitude meadows in all of North East India.
