How To Reach Buddha Bihar
How to Reach
Via Rowriah Airport (JRH): The nearest airport is Rowriah Airport (JRH) in Jorhat, which is well-connected to major cities like Guwahati and Kolkata (Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport). From the airport, which is approximately 3 to 4 KMS from the city center and about 10 KMS from the Buddha Bihar, you can hire a pre-paid taxi or a local cab. The drive from the airport to the Buddha Bihar should take around 20 to 30 minutes, depending on traffic. This is the fastest and most convenient option for long-distance travelers. The airport is served by domestic airlines, making the connection seamless from other parts of India.
By Train:
Via Jorhat Town (JTT) and Mariani Junction (MXN): Jorhat is served by two main railway stations. Jorhat Town Railway Station (JTT) is closer to the city center and thus closer to the Buddha Bihar (around 7-8 KMS). Mariani Junction (MXN) is a larger, more significant junction but is located further away (about 18-20 KMS). Traveling by train is an economical option, connecting Jorhat to places like Guwahati, Tinsukia, and other major networks. From either station, you can easily hire an auto-rickshaw or a taxi. The journey from Jorhat Town station is the quicker option.
By Road:
National and State Highways: Jorhat is well-connected by road, primarily through National Highway 715 (NH 715, formerly a part of NH 37), which connects the city to other parts of Assam and the rest of the country. State-run buses (ASTC) and private bus operators run regular services from cities like Guwahati (a long overnight journey), Dibrugarh, and Tezpur. If traveling by personal vehicle, use a GPS to navigate to the Mariani Road area, which leads to the Shankarpur location of the Bihar.
By Local Transport:
Auto-Rickshaws and Taxis: Within Jorhat city, the most reliable and readily available local transport options are auto-rickshaws and local shared taxis (often referred to as 'tata magic' or similar local cabs). From the main bus stand or the city center (Jorhat Chariali), an auto-rickshaw will take you directly to the Buddha Bihar in Shankarpur. It is always advisable to negotiate the fare before starting the journey or ensure the driver uses the meter if available, especially when hiring for an exclusive ride. Shared autos may be available on the Mariani Road route, offering a very cheap, albeit slightly slower, alternative.
