How To Reach Cinnamora Tea Estate

Jorhat, Assam, India
The Cinnamora Tea Estate holds a distinct and honored place in the history of the Assam tea industry, being renowned as the first commercial tea garden established by an Assamese individual. It was founded in 1850 by the visionary entrepreneur Maniram Dewan, who is a prominent figure in Assam's soci o-economic and political history. His pioneering effort demonstrated the commercial viability of tea cultivation in the region, independent of direct British plantation ownership, thus paving the way for the massive expansion of the Assam tea industry. Sprawling across a vast, lush green expanse, the estate offers a quintessential picture of the region's natural beauty, with neatly manicured rows of vibrant green tea bushes stretching as far as the eye can see. The estate is not just a commercial center for high-quality Assam orthodox tea production but also a living museum of colonial-era plantation culture. Visitors are drawn to its serene ambiance, historical significance, and the opportunity to witness the entire journey of tea, from the tender tea leaf on the bush to the final processed product. The estate played a crucial role in shaping the socio-economic fabric of Assam, attracting workers and establishing the unique plantation community culture that characterizes the region. It stands today as a proud symbol of Assam's tea heritage and the enduring legacy of figures like Maniram Dewan. Its proximity to the city of Jorhat makes it an easily accessible and ideal destination for tourists seeking a blend of historical insight and a tranquil nature retreat amidst the 'Tea Capital of India'.

How to Reach

By Air: The nearest airport is Jorhat Airport (JRH), also known as Rowriah Airport, located relatively close to the city center and the tea estate. The airport is well-connected to major Indian cities like Guwahati and Kolkata. Upon arrival, you can easily hire a pre-paid taxi or a local cab from the airport to reach the Cinnamora Tea Estate. The distance is short, approximately 15-20 KMS, and the drive takes around 30 to 45 minutes, depending on the traffic.

By Train: The nearest major railway station is Jorhat Town Railway Station (JTT). This station connects Jorhat to other parts of Assam and the rest of India. Alternatively, the broader junction at Mariani Junction (MXN), about 17-20 KMS away, serves as a crucial point for long-distance trains. From either station, you can hire an auto-rickshaw or a local taxi. The tea estate is only a short drive from the Jorhat Town station, making it a convenient mode of transport.

By Road: Jorhat is very well-connected by road within Assam and to neighboring states. National Highway 17 (NH 17) and other state highways link it to cities like Guwahati, Dibrugarh, and Kaziranga. You can opt for state-run buses, private luxury buses, or hire a private car/taxi for a comfortable road journey. Since the estate is only about 6-10 KMS from the Jorhat city center, the final part of the journey is quick and easy via local roads.

By Local Transport: Once in Jorhat city, reaching the estate is simple. Auto-rickshaws (Tuk-Tuks) and cycle-rickshaws are readily available and are the most common and cost-effective modes of local transport. You can also hire a local taxi or cab (like Ola/Uber in some parts) for a more comfortable ride. Always negotiate the fare with auto-rickshaws before starting your journey, or ensure the meter is running. The estate's location on the outskirts of the city makes the final leg of the journey short and scenic.
