How To Reach Colganj Rock Cut Temple

The Colganj Rock Cut Temple, located in Kahalgaon, is a stunning example of ancient Indian artistry. These temples date back to the Gupta period, roughly between the 5th and 6th centuries AD. Carved directly from granite boulders on a small hill, the temples feature intricate sculptures of Hindu, B uddhist, and Jain deities. This multi-religious character highlights the secular harmony of ancient Bihar. The site consists of five small rock-cut shrines, each dedicated to different forms of Lord Shiva, Vishnu, and Surya. The carvings are exceptionally detailed, showcasing the high level of craftsmanship of the Gupta architects. Overlooking the Ganges, the site offers not only historical value but also immense natural beauty. In the past, this area was a thriving center of trade and spirituality. Today, it stands as a protected monument under the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI).
