Diu is a small island located off the southern coast of the Saurashtra peninsula, connected to the mainland by two bridges near Una. The geography of Daman is characterized by its long, flat coastline and alluvial soil, while Diu features limestone cliffs and rocky shores. Both regions share a maritime climate, ensuring pleasant sea breezes throughout the year. State Administrative Details: Administratively, Daman and Diu are part of the Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu. Daman serves as the administrative headquarters of the combined territory, housing the major government secretariats. The region was a Portuguese colony for over 450 years before being liberated in December 1961. It was later separated from Goa in May 1987 to form a distinct Union Territory. Today, the administration focuses heavily on sustainable tourism and industrial development in sectors like textiles and plastics. The local governance is managed through district collectors who oversee public welfare and infrastructure. How to Reach

By Air: Diu has its own airport located at Nagoa, which has regular flights from Mumbai. For Daman, the nearest airport is Surat, located about 130 km away, or Mumbai, which is 170 km away. Most tourists fly into Mumbai and then take a taxi or train to reach the enclaves.

By Train: The nearest railway station to Daman is Vapi, located just 12 km away on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad line. It is well-connected by express trains from major cities. For Diu, the nearest station is Veraval, about 90 km away, which connects to Rajkot and Ahmedabad.

By Road: Daman is easily accessible via National Highway 48, connecting it to Mumbai (170 km) and Surat (110 km). State transport buses and private luxury coaches run regularly from nearby cities in Gujarat and Maharashtra. Diu is connected via NH 51 to major towns like Somnath and Bhavnagar.

By Local Transport: Within Daman and Diu, auto-rickshaws are the most common and convenient mode of transport. Many tourists prefer to rent scooters or bicycles in Diu to explore the island at their own pace. Taxis are also available for full-day sightseeing tours through local operators.
