How To Reach EME Temple

Vadodara, Gujarat, India
History and Construction: The EME Temple, officially the Dakshinamurti Temple, was constructed in 1966 by the Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (EME) corps of the Indian Army and is still maintained by them. It is dedicated to Lord Shiva in the form of Dakshinamurti (the silent teacher). The templ e was conceived and designed by Brigadier A.F. Eugene, the then-Christian commandant of the EME School. Unique Concept: The temple's primary distinction is its strong emphasis on secularism and the Unity of Religions, which is physically symbolized in its architecture. It aims to represent the unity of the Indian Army, which is composed of individuals from diverse religious backgrounds. This philosophical undercurrent makes it unlike any other temple in the world. Materials and Design: The most striking feature is its geodesic dome design, which is covered with aluminum sheets—a material fitting for a temple built by engineers. The use of war fragments and scrap materials in its construction adds a unique, patriotic dimension to the structure.
