How To Reach Hathni Waterfalls

Dandi, Gujarat, India
Hathni Waterfalls, also known as Hathni Mata Waterfall, is a breathtaking natural wonder located amidst the dense forests of the Jambughoda region. The name "Hathni" (meaning female elephant) comes from a rock formation at the base of the falls that resembles a baby elephant. This waterfall is seas onal, reaching its full glory during the monsoon months from July to September. Cascading from a height of about 100 meters, the water falls over a series of rocky steps, creating a misty and cool environment. The surrounding area is part of a lush green valley, filled with diverse flora and fauna. To reach the base of the falls, visitors must embark on a small trek through a scenic forest path, which adds to the adventure. At the base, there is a small cave-shrine dedicated to Hathni Mata, which is highly revered by the local tribal communities. The site is a popular weekend getaway for people from Vadodara and Ahmedabad. The air here is fresh and significantly cooler than the nearby plains. It is an ideal spot for nature photography, as the contrast between the white cascading water and the dark green foliage is stunning. The pool at the bottom is shallow enough for a quick dip, though one must be careful of slippery rocks. During the peak monsoon, the sound of the roaring waterfall can be heard from a distance. The path to the falls is lined with cornfields and tribal settlements, offering a glimpse into the local way of life. It is important to note that the waterfall dries up during the peak summer, so planning the visit according to the season is crucial. The site remains relatively undeveloped, which preserves its raw, natural charm.
