The Himalayan Meadow Haven: Jau Baug, also widely known as Jor Bagh (often transcribed as Jorbagh), is a spectacular and peaceful high-altitude meadow nestled just below the summit of Hatu Peak, making it a quintessential stop for those on the trek or drive to the top. Located roughly 8 kilometers f rom Narkanda town, this sprawling green expanse is a stunning contrast to the steep, densely forested slopes that surround it. The name "Baug" means garden, and the meadow lives up to this name, especially during the late spring and summer months (May to July), when it is carpeted with a variety of vibrant seasonal wildflowers and lush green grass. Jor Bagh serves two primary functions: it is an important resting and camping ground for trekkers and mountain adventurers, and it is a seasonal grazing pasture for the local shepherds (Gujjar and Gaddi communities). The presence of these nomadic groups adds a layer of authentic mountain culture to the otherwise serene natural setting. How to Reach

By Air:

The Nearest Flying Hub: The nearest airport is Jubbarhatti Airport (SLV) near Shimla (85 KMS). From there, hire a taxi to Narkanda and then a local vehicle or commence the trek for the final 8 KMS.

By Train:

The Rail Journey: Nearest broad-gauge station is Kalka (KLK), connecting to the Shimla Railway Station (SML) via the Toy Train (65 KMS from Narkanda). From Shimla, hire an HRTC bus or taxi to Narkanda via the NH-5.

By Road:

Narkanda to the Meadow: Narkanda is on the NH-5 (65 KMS from Shimla). From Narkanda market (approx. 8 KMS to the meadow), you can reach Jau Baug either by a local 4x4 taxi (the road is steep and narrow) or by trekking for about 2. 5 to 3 hours uphill. Most people who camp have their gear transported by the camping operator or a hired porter. Public transport doesn't go all the way.

By Local Transport:

The Trek: The trek is the most popular mode of transport for the final stretch. Small local taxis can drop visitors very close to the meadow entrance point, allowing for a short, easy walk to the camping area.
