Lachit Borphukan's Maidam is a significant historical monument and the burial site of the legendary Ahom General, Lachit Borphukan, who led the Ahom army to a decisive victory against the Mughal forces in the Battle of Saraighat in 1671. The Maidam, which literally means 'burial mound' in Ahom tradi tion for royals and nobles, was constructed in 1672 by Ahom King Swargadeo Udayaditya Singha to honour the hero a year after his death. How to Reach
By Air: The nearest airport is Jorhat Airport (JRH), also known as Rowriah Airport. It is located approximately 18-20 KMS from Lachit Borphukan's Maidam. The airport has direct flights connecting Jorhat to major Indian cities like Kolkata and Guwahati. Upon arrival, you can easily hire a pre-paid taxi, a ride-sharing cab, or an auto-rickshaw from the airport terminal. The journey by road takes about 30 to 45 minutes, depending on the traffic conditions. It is the fastest and most convenient way to reach Jorhat for visitors coming from outside Assam.
