How To Reach Mandvi Gate

Vadodara, Gujarat, India
The Mandvi Gate stands as a colossal historical landmark in the heart of Vadodara, serving as a reminder of the city's fortified past and its vibrant commercial evolution over several centuries. This square-shaped pavilion was originally built during the Mughal era by Sultan Muzaffar between 1511 an d 1526 AD and has since witnessed numerous renovations by the Maratha rulers and the Gaekwad dynasty. Historically, it served as a crucial toll gate where traders paid duties, and it was centrally located within the walled city where four major roads intersected to connect the city's primary gates. On special occasions and national festivals, the entire structure is illuminated with thousands of colorful lights, making it a spectacular sight for both locals and tourists exploring the old city's charm. Today, it remains a bustling hub surrounded by traditional markets like Laheripura and Raopura, where the old-world spirit of Baroda continues to thrive through narrow lanes and heritage shops.

How to Reach

By Air: The nearest airport is Vadodara International Airport (BDQ), located approximately 6 KMS away. From the airport, you can take a pre-paid taxi or a ride-sharing service like Uber or Ola directly to the Mandvi area. The drive usually takes about 20 minutes depending on the city's traffic.

By Train: Vadodara Junction (BRC) is the closest major railway station, situated just 3 KMS from the gate. After exiting the station, you can easily find auto-rickshaws that will take you to Mandvi Circle for a nominal fare. It is a quick 10 to 15-minute ride through the heart of the city.

By Road: Vadodara is well-connected by National Highway 8, which links it to Mumbai and Ahmedabad. If you are driving from nearby cities, follow the signs for the 'Old City' or 'City Center' once you enter Vadodara. There are several public parking lots near the outskirts of the market from where you can walk to the gate.

By Local Transport: The most convenient way to reach Mandvi Gate within the city is by the local city buses (VITCOS) or auto-rickshaws. The gate is a major landmark, so every driver will know the location. Be prepared for some congestion in the narrow lanes of the old city, but this is part of the authentic local experience.
