How To Reach Molai Forest Reserve
How to Reach
Rs. By Train:The nearest railway station is Jorhat Town Railway Station (JTT). This station is well-connected to various parts of Assam and the rest of India. Alternatively, the larger Mariani Junction Railway Station (MXN), about 17 KMS from Jorhat city center, offers better connectivity to long-distance routes. From either station, you can easily hire a local taxi, auto-rickshaw, or take a bus to reach the Kokilamukh area. The drive from the railway station to the forest's entry point will take about 30 minutes to 1 hour, depending on the distance and local road conditions. If arriving at Mariani, it's best to first travel to Jorhat city and then proceed.
Rs. By Road:Jorhat is well-connected by road to key cities and towns in Assam and the neighboring states. National Highway 17 and State Highways connect Jorhat with places like Guwahati (about 310 KMS), Sibsagar (about 55 KMS), and Kaziranga National Park (about 100 KMS). You can drive your own vehicle, hire a private cab, or take a shared taxi to reach the Kokilamukh area. The forest is located off the main highway, and the last part of the journey involves navigating smaller, sometimes rough, roads towards the river bank. The total journey time from Jorhat city center is generally less than an hour.
Rs. By Local Transport:From Jorhat city, the most common way to reach the Kokilamukh area is by hiring an auto-rickshaw or a local cab. Negotiate the fare beforehand. Since the forest is near the river and not always easily accessible, the local transport may drop you off near the nearest village, and you may need to walk a short distance or arrange for a local boat/canoe to cross a small stream or reach the specific sandbar. The most reliable method is to hire a taxi for a round trip. If you are approaching from the Majuli side, you will take a ferry from Nimati Ghat (Jorhat side) to Kamalabari Ghat (Majuli side), and then hire a local taxi or two-wheeler to the forest, which is often a more immersive but longer journey.
