It was established in 1995 by the Kerala Forest Research Institute (KFRI) to document and conserve the history, cultural, aesthetic, and scientific aspects of teak. The museum is situated about 4 km from the Nilambur town. The two-storey building houses a wealth of information, from the history of teak planting in the area, starting with the efforts of H. V. Conolly, the then Malabar District Collector, to the various methods of felling and wood preservation.
