How To Reach Nilambur Teak Museum
How to Reach
Calicut International Airport - CCJ): The nearest major airport is the Calicut International Airport (CCJ), located at Karipur, which is approximately 58-60 KMS away from Nilambur town. The airport is well-connected to major Indian cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, and several international destinations, particularly in the Middle East. Upon arrival at CCJ, visitors have several options to reach Nilambur. The most convenient is to hire a pre-paid taxi or a private cab directly from the airport terminal. The journey usually takes about 1. 5 to 2 hours, depending on traffic conditions. Alternatively, one can take an airport bus to the Malappuram or Manjeri bus stand and then board a connecting local or state-run bus (KSRTC) to Nilambur. Taxis are recommended for comfort and direct travel.
By Train (Nearest Railway Station:
Nilambur Road - NIL): The nearest and most convenient railway station is Nilambur Road (NIL), which is only about 4 km from the museum. Nilambur Road station is the terminus for a branch line that connects to the main broad-gauge network at Shoranur Junction (SRR). There are daily passenger and express trains running from Shoranur to Nilambur Road. Visitors arriving from major cities like Chennai or Bangalore can first travel to Shoranur Junction, a major railway hub in Kerala, and then take a connecting train to Nilambur Road. From Nilambur Road station, the museum is a very short auto-rickshaw ride or a quick local bus journey away.
By Road (Well-connected by State Highways): Nilambur is extremely well-connected by road. State Highway 28 (SH 28) passes through Nilambur, connecting it to the rest of Kerala and neighboring states. Regular state-run buses (KSRTC) and private buses operate frequent services to Nilambur from all major towns and cities in Kerala, including Malappuram (about 40 km), Manjeri (about 25 km), Kozhikode (about 70 km), and Palakkad. For those driving their own vehicle, the road condition is generally good, and the drive, especially through the forested areas leading up to Nilambur, is quite scenic. There is adequate parking available at the museum premises. By Local Transport (Auto-rickshaws and Local Buses): Once in Nilambur town or at the Nilambur Road railway station, local transport is easily available. Auto-rickshaws (autos) are the most common and convenient way to cover the 4 km distance to the museum. They are metered or operate on a fixed local fare. Additionally, local buses frequently ply the route between Nilambur town and the museum location, offering a very economical way to travel. Always negotiate the auto-rickshaw fare beforehand if the driver is not using a meter.
