How To Reach Nongkhnum Beach

Mairang, Meghalaya, India
Place Details: Nongkhnum Beach is a rare and breathtaking geological feature located on the Nongkhnum River Island, the second-largest river island in Asia. This beach is formed at the confluence of the Phanliang and Namliang rivers, where the water slows down enough to deposit fine, golden sand. U nlike the rocky terrains typical of Meghalaya, this site offers a sprawling sandy shoreline that feels more like a coastal retreat than a mountain destination. The beach is surrounded by vast grasslands and rolling hills, providing a 360-degree view of the untouched Khasi landscape. During the winter months, the water levels recede, exposing even more of the sandy expanse and creating a perfect environment for relaxation and recreation. The water of the Kynshi River here is remarkably clear, reflecting the bright blue skies and the surrounding greenery. It is a place of profound silence, broken only by the gentle lapping of the river and the calls of distant birds. The beach serves as the primary entry point for those looking to explore the deeper parts of the island, including the nearby waterfalls. Because it is located in a remote part of the West Khasi Hills, it remains one of the cleanest and most peaceful spots in the state, making it a favorite for those who wish to escape the commercialized tourist circuits of Shillong.
