How To Reach Nyay Mandir

Vadodara, Gujarat, India
Nyay Mandir, which translates to the 'Temple of Justice', is a magnificent building that formerly housed the District Court of Vadodara and stands as a symbol of the visionary governance of Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad III. Completed in 1896, the building was originally commissioned as a vegetable mar ket named after the Maharaja's first wife, Maharani Chimnabai I, before being converted into a town hall and eventually an imperial court. It is situated on the eastern bank of the scenic Sursagar Lake, providing a regal backdrop to one of the city's most iconic water bodies. The building has played a pivotal role in the socio-political history of the region, hosting legendary figures like Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and Sri Aurobindo for public lectures and important legal proceedings. Although the courts have recently shifted to a newer complex, the building continues to be a major tourist attraction due to its grand scale, historical weight, and its association with the legal reforms of the Baroda State.

How to Reach

By Air: Vadodara Airport is the primary air link, located about 7 KMS from Nyay Mandir. Numerous flights connect Vadodara to major hubs like Delhi, Mumbai, and Bangalore. Once you land, a taxi or auto-rickshaw can bring you to the Sursagar area in about 25 minutes, providing a scenic entry into the city's heritage zone.

By Train: The building is extremely close to the Vadodara Railway Station, located at a distance of only 2 KMS. You can literally take a short auto-rickshaw ride or even a brisk walk if you are traveling light. The proximity to the station makes it one of the easiest heritage sites to visit for those arriving by train.

By Road: If traveling by bus, the Vadodara Central Bus Station is also very close, approximately 1. 5 KMS away. For those driving their own vehicles, follow the main road toward Raopura or Sursagar Lake. Parking can be a bit challenging during peak market hours, so using a nearby multi-level parking facility is highly recommended for a stress-free visit.

By Local Transport: Auto-rickshaws are the most efficient way to navigate the busy streets leading to Nyay Mandir. You can also use the local bus service that runs frequently through the Raopura and Mandvi routes. The central location means that almost all forms of local transport pass through or near this iconic landmark throughout the day.
