How To Reach Singur Dam
Sangareddy, Telangana, India
History and Engineering: The Singur Dam, also known as the Singoor Reservoir, is a large-scale project constructed across the Manjeera River, upstream of the Manjeera Dam. It serves as a vital source of drinking water for the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad, as well as providing extensive irrigation benefits to the surrounding areas of Sangareddy and Medak districts. Completed in the late 1980s, the dam is a massive earth-cum-masonry structure that impounds a significant volume of water. The project has a major capacity, making its water level an important gauge of the region's water security. Its location within a deep valley surrounded by undulating terrain provides a stunning, picturesque setting, making it one of the major scenic spots in the district. Ecological Importance: The reservoir is a deep water body, which has also naturally become a habitat for various aquatic life, most notably the Marsh Crocodile (Mugger), which is often spotted basking along the quieter, less-traveled parts of the reservoir’s perimeter. The massive lake and its surrounding hills offer a serene escape and a quiet spot for nature lovers, contrasting sharply with the smaller Manjeera Dam downstream. Its function as both a scenic tourist spot and a critical water resource underscores its profound importance to the entire region of Telangana.:

How to Reach

By Air: Fly to Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (HYD) in Hyderabad (approx. 110-120 KMS away). From the airport, hire a pre-paid taxi for the journey. The dam is located off NH-65 toward the Zaheerabad side. The drive takes about 3 hours.

By Train: The major rail hub is Secunderabad Railway Station (SC). Take a bus or cab from the station to Sangareddy, and then continue to Singur. The nearest local station is Zaheerabad (ZB) (approx. 25-30 KMS from the dam). Hiring a taxi from Zaheerabad to the dam is a good option.

By Road: Singur Dam is located approximately 35 KMS from Sangareddy town via the NH-65 and then local roads toward Kohir / Singur village. The entire journey from Hyderabad is about 90-100 KMS. TSRTC buses operate to Singur village, from where you will need local transport. Driving your own vehicle is highly recommended for convenience.

By Local Transport: From Sangareddy Bus Station, you can hire a private taxi or a shared jeep/auto-rickshaw, which is the most practical way to cover the distance and ensure a return journey. Negotiate a return fare, including waiting time, with the driver, as local transport is scarce at the dam site itself. :
