Nearest Airport: The nearest major airport is Mangalore International Airport (IXE), which is approximately 105-110 KMs away. It connects to major Indian cities like Bengaluru, Mumbai, and Delhi, as well as some international destinations. From the airport, one can hire a taxi or take a pre-booked cab, which takes about 2. 5 to 3 hours to reach Sringeri.
By Train:
Nearest Railheads: The nearest major railway stations are Udupi Railway Station (UD), about 80 KMs away, and Shivamogga Town Railway Station (SMET), about 100 KMs away. Mangalore Railway Station is another option at about 115 KMs. Trains connect these stations to major Indian cities. From the railway stations, state-run buses (KSRTC) and private taxis are readily available. Udupi is generally preferred for its slightly shorter distance.
By Road:
Excellent Bus Connectivity: Sringeri is exceptionally well-connected by road. Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) runs direct, comfortable bus services (including Airavat and Rajahamsa luxury buses) from major cities like Bengaluru (340 KMs), Mangalore (110 KMs), Shivamogga (100 KMs), and Chikmagalur (90 KMs). The journey from Bengaluru takes about 7 to 8 hours. The road journey through the Western Ghats is scenic but winding.
By Local Transport: Within Sringeri town, the temple complex is centrally located and can be easily reached on foot from most nearby accommodations. For longer distances within the town or to nearby sites like Kigga, one can use auto-rickshaws, which are easily available, or local taxis. The main bus stand is less than 1 KM from the temple complex.
