How To Reach Teliya Talav

Teliya Talav is a significant historical and religious water body located on the Mauliya plateau of the Pavagadh hill in Gujarat. This ancient reservoir is one of the three famous tanks on the hill, along with Dudhiya Talav and Chhashiya Talav, which are symbolically associated with milk, buttermil k, and oil. The name "Teliya" is derived from the Gujarati word for oil, as the water in this lake is said to have an oily appearance or consistency due to the presence of specific minerals or spiritual beliefs. Historically, this lake played a crucial role in the water management system of the Champaner-Pavagadh Archaeological Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It was part of an ingenious network of macro and micro catchments designed by ancient engineers to harvest rainwater on the volcanic hill slopes, ensuring a steady water supply for the garrison and pilgrims throughout the year. The lake is situated near the Sadan Shah Gate and the famous Suparshvanath Digamber Jain Temple, making it a pivotal stop for devotees ascending toward the Mahakali Temple. Legend suggests that the waters of these three lakes represent the three primary humors or essential liquids, and bathing or visiting them is considered spiritually purifying. Surrounded by rugged volcanic rocks and sparse vegetation, the lake offers a tranquil environment away from the main temple crowds. It serves as a testament to the advanced hydraulic engineering of the Solanki and Chauhan dynasties who fortified this hill. Over the centuries, the lake has witnessed the rise and fall of various empires, from the Rajput kings to Sultan Mahmud Begada. Today, it remains a serene spot where nature meets history, providing a reflective space for visitors to appreciate the natural beauty of the Panchmahal district. How to Reach

By Air: The nearest airport is Vadodara Airport (BDQ), located approximately 48 KMS away. From the airport, you can hire a taxi or take a bus to Pavagadh.

By Train: The closest major railway station is Vadodara Junction (54 KMS). There is also a small station at Champaner Road, about 1 KMS from the base, but major trains stop at Vadodara.

By Road: Pavagadh is well-connected by Gujarat State Transport (GSRTC) buses from Vadodara, Ahmedabad (150 KMS), and Halol. Private cars can drive up to the Machi plateau.

By Local Transport: From Machi, you can either trek up for about 30-45 minutes or take the Maa Mahakalika Udan Khatola (ropeway) and then walk a short distance to reach Teliya Talav.
