Another major highlight is the Thumboormuzhi Hanging Bridge (suspension bridge), which spans the Chalakudy River and connects the Thrissur district side (where the garden is located) to the Ernakulam district side, known as Ezhattumukham Prakriti Gramam (Nature Village). Walking across this bridge provides a stunning panoramic view of the river, the dam, and the surrounding lush greenery. This distance is shorter than the drive to the main falls, making it easily accessible. From COK, travelers can hire a direct taxi or a pre-paid cab. The route is straightforward, often taking less than an hour to reach the site, depending on traffic, making it an excellent first or last stop on an Athirappilly itinerary.
By Train (Well-Connected via Chalakudy Railway Station)
The nearest main railway station is Chalakudy Railway Station (CKI), located just 17-18 KMS away. Chalakudy is a major stopping point for regional and long-distance trains. From the station, the most efficient way to reach Thumboormuzhi is by auto-rickshaw or taxi. Due to the short distance, the auto-rickshaw is a popular and economical local transport option. Ensure you confirm the fare before starting the journey.
By Road (Convenient SH 21 Location)
Thumboormuzhi is located conveniently on the State Highway that connects Chalakudy to Athirappilly (SH 21). It is only about 17 KMS from the central Chalakudy town. This easy access makes it a common stop for all tourist vehicles. The roads are excellent. If you are driving from Thrissur or Kochi, you will turn off the main highway towards Chalakudy and then follow the road to the falls. The site is clearly marked with proper signage.
By Local Transport (Frequent Bus Connectivity)
Public transport is readily available from Chalakudy to Thumboormuzhi. KSRTC (Kerala State Road Transport Corporation) buses running from Chalakudy to Athirappilly and Vazhachal pass directly by the Thumboormuzhi site. The bus journey is very cheap and frequent, especially during daylight hours. Auto-rickshaws are also abundant in Chalakudy and can easily take you to the garden. Since the site is popular, returning local transport is usually available, though booking a taxi for a round trip is the most hassle-free choice. :
